Publishing to 4 social channels from one queue

Plan once, publish everywhere. A look at the multi-channel publishing architecture in Contents Lab — and why per-channel variants matter more than you think.

Publishing to 4 social channels from one queue

In Contents Lab, you write a topic once and publish it to Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram — each with its own per-channel variant.

The queue model

Every topic has a “publish queue.” When you mark a topic as ready, Contents Lab fans out the topic to all connected channels at the scheduled time, with the per-channel variant applied.

Why per-channel variants matter

Twitter/X wants brevity. LinkedIn wants substance. Facebook wants a story. Instagram wants an image. If you publish the same exact post to all four, you look like a bot. Per-channel variants let you tailor the message to the medium while keeping the source content the same.

The schedule

The project-level default schedule sets when topics publish by default (e.g. “Tuesday 9am”). Per-topic overrides let you move a single topic to a different time.

Failure handling

If a publish fails (rate limit, network, token expired), the queue retries up to 3 times with exponential backoff. After that, the failure is surfaced in the UI with the underlying error.

Where this is going

The next iteration will add:

  • Best-time-to-post (computed from past engagement per channel)
  • A/B variants (publish two variants and pick the winner)
  • Channel-specific analytics back-fill
