Writing editor guide

The Contents Lab editor is a focused Markdown + WYSIWYG editor with autosave, version history, and a one-click Source panel.

Markdown + WYSIWYG

The editor supports both Markdown (for power users) and WYSIWYG (for visual writers). Toggle between them in the toolbar. The two modes stay in sync — what you write in Markdown shows up formatted in WYSIWYG.

Autosave

The editor autosaves every 5 seconds. The autosave indicator in the toolbar shows the last-saved time. If you reload, your work is preserved.

Version history

Every save creates a version snapshot. Click the History button in the toolbar to see the list. You can preview any version and restore it with one click. Restore does not delete the current version — it creates a new version with the restored content.

Source panel

The Source panel on the right side of the editor lets you cite sources without leaving the editor. Click the Sources button to open it. You can:

  • Capture a new source (URL, note, file)
  • Search the project’s Source Library
  • Insert a citation at the cursor

Word target

Each topic can have a word target (set in topic settings). The editor shows progress toward the target in the toolbar.

Export

When you are done, export the topic to Markdown, HTML, or PDF (Pro plan and above).
